Abstract

This study aims to determine competence, performance and the effect of competence on the performance of employees in the field of road and bridge development in the public works and spatial planning of Riau Province. Employee competency indicators used include Work Experience, Background and Education Level, Participating in Training and Skills Courses, while employee performance indicators used include Responsibilities with Tasks, Dedication and Creative, Employee Loyalty and Inter-Employee Cooperation. The research is located in the field of road and bridge construction and the general development and spatial planning of Riau Province is a descriptive survey. The sample of this study consisted of 52 employees. The sampling technique is Disproportional Random Sampling. Data collection in research using questionnaires, documentation and interviews. Analysis of the data in this study uses Simple Linear Regression Analysis. The questionnaire has been carried out a validity test which shows above 0.308 and the reliability test found by Alpha Cronbach is competence which is 0.918 and performance is 0.951. Descriptive research results indicate that employee competency is quite good. When descriptive variables find good performance variables. The results of the study using simple linear regression analysis found R Square was 0.856, which showed that there was a significant influence of employee competence on employee performance by 85.60%. While the remaining 14.40% is influenced by other factors not yet examined
