Abstract
The process of breaking down oil-water emulsions becomes an oil phase and the water phase is called demulsification. Until now the uses of demulsifier are still using commercial/conventional (chemical) materials which are expensive (foreign material) and harmful for the environment. The new formula of local demulsifier will be tested using a material of palm oil and other additions, including lemon, glycerin, and KOH. This study aims to (1). Determine the results of the separation of the eco- friendly demulsifier formula and compare it to commercial demulsifiers. Determine the level of influence on the emulsion separation from the parameters of temperature, separation time, and concentration of the addition of the formula. The crude oil that to be tested has heavy oil properties (20°API) and located in X Field, Riau Province. The sample is taken from wellhead of the field well. The research will be carried out in laboratory using the bottle test method. The emulsion will be prepared into 50ml (25ml of formation water and 25ml of crude oil) on the bottle that will be tested in a water bath for 3 hours vulnerable with 30 minutes of observation. The locally demulsifier will divided into 2 formulas with different concentrations of each material. As a comparison to see the effectiveness of the formulas, base case condition (without mixture), additional conventional demulsifier (DK), and lemon addition to local demulsifier will be tested. The testing result from the bottle test method with water bath shown the value of local + lemon demulsifier separation, DKS (5ml, 80°C) is 39ml as the optimal and best formula in breaking emulsion of X field sample. Based on these results, the effectiveness of emulsion breakdown using local material (with temperature of 80°C and 5 ml as injecting concentration) is better based on base case reference and it’s comparison with a conventional demulsifier (31ml @5ml, 80°C). The p-value from the temperature is 0 and the only one that has a value smaller than the standard significance value (α = 0.05), which means that the linear regression model matches the criteria for linearity and the changes shown are significant. Furthermore, the R-Sq (adj) value of the temperature itself is 62.1%. The value is interpreted as the magnitude of the influence of the contribution of variable, which in this case is temperature.
