Abstract
The directive speech act is the speech act referred to by the speaker so that the speech partner or interlocutor acts. This speech act states what the speaker wants. This speech act includes commands, reservations, requests, and giving advice. In this study the author examines the form and strategies of teacher directive speech in the teaching and learning process at SMP YLPI Marpoyan Pekanbaru. The problem that the author is careful about namely: The form of directive speech and directive speech strategies. Where the directive speech forms are divided into 4 forms of speech, namely: the form of orders, the form of orders, the form of requests, and the form of giving advice. The directive speech strategy consists of direct speech and indirect speech. The theory used by the author in analyzing research is a theory put forward by Yule in the book Andi Offespt (2006). While the sample of this research is all the teacher's utterances in the learning process of class IX students which contain the meaning of the directive utterances. The method used is descriptive method. Data collection techniques used were observation, record, and note taking techniques. The conclusion that the writer can take is: from 115 teacher's speeches to students it can be concluded that the least directive utterance was found in the form of requests which amounted to 6 utterances, while the most directive utterances found were found in the form of orders totaling 73 utterances. Based on the directive utterance strategy found in the most commonly found teacher's utterances, namely 66 direct utterances. Whereas the least is that in indirect speech there are 11 utterances.
