Abstract
The use of technology based on alternative energy is being widely used to anticipate the limitations of fossil energy. The vortex turbine is one example. Vortex turbines are one of the classifications in micro hydro turbines that use whirlpools to move the blades. The vortex turbine has a relatively low head, which is 0.7 m – 3 m with a discharge of 50 L/s. This type of turbine is very suitable when used for river flow, because most rivers have low heads. The purpose of this study was to obtain a vortex turbine with good performance, both in terms of power produced and in terms of efficiency by varying the impeller height and the number of blades on the impeller to get better turbine performance. The height variations in question are 180 mm, 210 mm, and 240 mm. Meanwhile, the variation in the number of spoons in question is 6, 8, and 10. The results of this study are the impeller with a height of 215 mm and the number of blades of 10 produce mechanical power (P Mek ) dynamo power (P ) and turbine efficiency ( t ) the highest with mechanical power (P Mek dinamo ) produced 25.2028 W. dynamo power (P dinamo ) produced 7.775 W. and turbine efficiency ( ) produced 65.39%. In this case it can be concluded that the more the number of blades on the impeller, the better the power and efficiency produced. while the higher the impeller does not guarantee good power and efficiency results. t
