Abstract

The Sentak Belang Kaki dance is one of the dance creations created by Best Hikmahetty, which managed to become the first (first) winner at the Dance Festival in Riau Province, and became the only dance by Best Hikmahetty that was included in the top 10 best dance parade presenters at the National Level. As a dance, of course, the Sentak Belang Kaki Dance also contains dance elements. Therefore, it is necessary to investigate further, so the purpose of this study is to determine the dance elements in the Sentak Belang Kaki Dance at the Malay Dance Studio, Riau Province. This research method is a qualitative descriptive method. The results showed that there were 9 (nine) dance elements in the Sentak Belang Kaki Dance at the Malay Dance Studio, Riau Province, namely motion, floor design, upper design, music, dramatic design, dynamics, group composition, theme, and dance equipment. Where: (1) motion consists of meaningful motion and pure motion. However, the basic movement in the Sentak Belang Kaki Dance is a meaningful movement. The motion comes from the alif movement, the elbow motion, and the gelek motion; (2) floor designs in the form of the letter M pattern, in the form of an inverted V, triangular, oblique, or a combination of several design patterns such as a circle pattern and an inverted V design pattern, an oblique design with an inverted V design, or a combination of an inverted V design with front facing horizontal design; (3) the top design is deep, vertical, horizontal, static, straight, angled, medium, low, and asymmetrical; (4) the music used is the rhythm of Jogi music; (5) the dramatic design in the Sentak Belang Kaki Dance is known from the tempo of the music and the speed of the dance movements. At the climax, the tempo of the music and dance moves quickly; (6) dynamics in the form of accelerando, ritardando, oescendo, discrescendo, and legato; (7) group composition in the form of unison (simultaneous), broken (split), and alternate (alternating) group designs; (8) the theme comes from everyday events; (9) dance equipment in the form of costumes, make-up, stage, and lighting
