Abstract

Regarding smoking in adolescents generally generally will increasingly increase in accordance with the stages of its development which is characterized by increased frequency and intensity of smoking, and often results in them experiencing nicotine dependence. This study aims to find out what the motives of high school students of Islamic education institutions that excel in consuming cigarettes and to find out high school students of Islamic education institutions whose achievements are interpreting smoking. Typical students who smoke are typical naughty, stubborn students, often skipping lessons normally. However, the phenomenon that occurs in high schools in Islamic educational institutions is different, there are some students who smoke but still have achievements in school and outside of school. Even though they smoke, at school or outside of school they still show a positive side, such as getting achievements. Therefore not always students who smoke are only students who show their mischief. In this study, researchers used a qualitative research method with a phenomenological approach using a purposive technique in which the subject of this study was a high school student of an Islamic educational institution foundation consisting of 7 (seven) students who had been selected based on criteria. Data obtained from interviews that the smoking motives of high school students of Islamic educational institutions that excel is because they live in smokers, because smoking is a daily habit, smoking because they are already addicted and other motives for high school students foundation institutions Islamic education that achieves smoking is to relieve stress, then to fill leisure time, to find calm and to be more relaxed. While the meaning of consuming cigarettes for high school students is the foundation of Islamic educational institutions that excel in the form of calm, life, enjoyment and an activity as well as a place of escape.
