Abstract

ackling illegal fishing cannot be released with the role of the police who internalize the role in the process of dealing with criminal acts. As well as the marine fisheries service that has the right to issue licenses and provide guidance related to marine fisheries. Therefore, a comprehensive response is needed to prevent illegal fishing. The formulation of the problem examined in this study is about the efforts made in tackling illegal fishing in the waters of the Meranti Islands Regency and the obstacles faced in overcoming illegal fishing in the waters of the Meranti Islands Regency. This type of research is observational research by survey, which is research that takes data directly from the population / respondent by conducting interviews as a data collection tool, then from the data taken is processed so that conclusions are obtained by the deductive method. Meanwhile, when viewed from its nature, this research is descriptive in nature, a research that explains in clear and detailed sentences about countermeasures against illegal fishing in the waters of the Meranti islands. The handling of illegal fishing in the Meranti Islands Regency waters has been running optimally, but still illegal fishing continues to occur in the Meranti Islands Regency territorial waters, for this reason it is necessary to continue the role of the Meranti Islands Regency Polair Police to take action against any perpetrators of fishing illegal and monitoring areas that are often used as a place for fishers to catch fish, and the role of the marine fisheries service in the Meranti Island Regency to provide legal counseling to the community specifically fishermen in the Meranti Island Regency. However, the small number of patrol boats available is an obstacle for the Meranti Island Police Polair in conducting law enforcement against illegal fishing in the waters of the Meranti Island Regency, as well as the legal cultural factors of the community who do not understand and comply with the prohibitions on illegal fishing. the task of the marine fisheries service in the Meranti islands district is to do legal counseling.
