Abstract
Mathematical problem solving ability is an ability that is included in Indonesia national education goals, but its achievement is still relatively low. In order to overcome the problem, the study is done using Problem Based-Learning. This research is a quasi-experimental study using non-equivalent control group design. The population took 288 all (n=288) of the tenth grade science students (X MIPA) consisting of X MIPA 1 of the experimental class as well as X MIPA 2 of the control class. The technique of determining the sample was done by purposive sampling for 3 weeks; started from 18 February 2020 until 10 March 2020. The research instrument used was mathematical problem solving ability test are pretest and post-test, and the data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and inferential statistics. In this research the data therefore inferential statistics in which the hypothesis test was homogeneity and t-test. As a result, t(count) > t(table) . The findings of this study indicated that Problem Based Learning positively affected students‟ mathematics learning outcomes of the tenth science grade of SMAN 8 Pekanbaru.
