Abstract

The background of this study is the problem of students' activeness in learning Akidah Akhlak (moral teology) in class X MIA at Madrasah Aliyah (MA) of Ummatan Wasathan Riau Technology Boarding School. Learning activeness is very important in the learning process because knowledge, skills, and attitudes cannot be conveyed but they must be developed by the students themselves. The teaching method applied by the teachers previously only used the lecture method and then the students were asked to do exercises. To overcome this problem, it is necessary to apply methods that are able to stimulate students’ activeness in teaching and learning activities, and one of them is by applying Cooperative Learning method on the type of STAD. The problem examined in this study is: Can Cooperative Learning method on the type of STAD increase students’ activeness in learning Akidah Akhlak in Class X MIA at Madrasah Aliyah (MA) of Ummatan Wasathan Riau Technology Boarding School? This study applies classroom action research with 3 (three) action cycles, which each cycle consists of 4 (four) actions, namely planning, implementing, observing and reflecting indicators. Based on the data analysis, it found that the students’ activeness in learning before using Cooperative Learning method on the type of STAD is in the low category with a percentage of 31%. After using Cooperative Learning method on the type of STAD for the first cycle, it found that the students’ learning activeness has increased into the medium category with a percentage of 53%. Then, at the second cycle, it found that the students’ learning activeness is in the high category with a percentage of 71%. Furthermore, at the third cycle, it found that students’ learning activeness is in the very high category with a percentage of 81%. So, according to this study, it can be concluded that the application of Cooperative Learning method on the type of STAD can improve students’ activeness in learning Akidah Akhlak in Class X MIA at Madrasah Aliyah (MA) of Ummatan Wasathan Riau Technology boarding School.
