Abstract

Drilling activities are a familiar part of oil and gas industries. In drilling activities, mud has important role in supporting of these drilling activities. One of the problems commonly daced is the large amount of cutting in the mud as drilling activities progress. This is caused by solid control equipment on the circulating system that does not work properly (Dahl, Saasen, & Omland, 2008). In X field, writer identified the drilling process on field X. Well A and well B are not observed in solid control activities. While other 3 well are considered solid control. By evaluating solid control activities before and after improvement, it can be observed from the value of E t (total efficiency of solid control system) and the value of cost saving if solid control actvities are maintaned and done well. From the result of economic justificaton calculations, the lowest cost is obtained in well E with value $9.07/ft and the highest cost in well A with value $15.20/ft. this shows that the better solid control performance, the lower the cost needed. As value for well B, well C, well D respectively are $13,86/ft, $10,79/ft, and $11,71/ft. if good solid control maintanace is carried out, the company can make a sabing of $6.13/ft. if the cost required for drilling is calculated at depth of 1656 ft in well A, the company can save costs of $10,151.28. Whereas, based on the results of the calculation of solid control efficiency in each well, continuity is obtained with the total cost calculated previously. The highest efficiency value was obtained from well E, while the lowest was obtained from well A with values of 0.87 and 0.39 respectively. While the efficiency value of well A, well C, and well D respectively is 0.69, 0.82, 0.76.
