Abstract
Currently, more heavy crude oil reserves are found thus it is essential to implement enhanced oil recovery (EOR) technology which is considered effective if applied to heavy oil reservoirs. Steam-assisted gravity drainage (SAGD) method is one of thermal EOR method by injecting steam continuously and utilize the force of gravity. With the difference in gravity, steam will incline to rise upward, whilst oil inclines to be below. This process requires one horizontal well at the top as injection well and one horizontal well at the bottom as production well in a formation. Sensitivity analysis of SAGD operating parameters in this study conducted by simulation research using CMG-STARS software. Simulations performed on a homogeneous reservoir model to determine comparison of base case conditions and SAGD injection conditions and knowing the value of the recovery factor and CSOR from several operating parameters for sensitivity, such as the preheating period, steam injection rate, and vertical well spacing. Based on the simulation results, the recovery factor value has obtained which can directly determine the successful of the SAGD method that has been applied in X Field. In the base case or without injection conditions, the recovery factor value is 2.13% while the injection condition reaches a value of 55.90%. Whereas the sensitivity results show that the preheating period, steam injection rate, and vertical distance of the well affect the enhancement of oil recovery factor and CSOR. In the 25 days of preheating period sensitivity, the highest recovery factor is 56.04% and 150 days preheating period obtained the lowest CSOR of 12.35 bbl/bbl. Sensitivity of steam injection rate of 2,000 bbl/d obtained the highest recovery factor value of 58,46% and 500 bbl/d steam injection rate obtained the lowest CSOR of 6.88 bbl/bbl. Whilst sensitivity of 60 ft vertical well spacing, obtained the highest recovery factor and the lowest CSOR is 58.50% and 11.87 bbl/bbl.
