Abstract

The SAGD method is usually carried out for horizontal wells by injecting steam into the formation. When steam is injected into a relatively incompressible reservoir, the formation pressure will increase gradually from the initial formation pressure which is characterized by increasing pore pressure and decreasing effective pressure, this process is called dilation. After the pressure decreases when the fluid is lost to the reservoir rock, it will cause a reduction in pore volume resulting in dilation recovery, where the rock undergoes recompactio. Both of these phenomena will result in deformation of the reservoir rock with a rapid increase in porosity and permeability. In this study, a simulation will be carried out using CMG STAR software to see changes in reservoir characteristics such as permeability and porosity caused by dilation that occurs in the rock during the injection process using the SAGD method. Steam injection is carried out continuously with various pressure values at different dilation and recompaction, namely 6000 kPa, 6500 kPa, 7000 kPa, 7500 kPa, 8000 kPa and 8500 kPa with recompaction 5000 kPa, 8000 kPa, 11000 kPa, and 14000 kPa. The results showed that the changes in the increase in porosity and permeability were different for each variation of dilation with various recompactions. For the porosity of 0.3127 – 0.3279 and for the permeability of 1674 – 1784 mD. The lower the dilation and the higher the recompaction, the greater the porosity and permeability changes.
