Abstract

Usually avtur are stored in a storage tank. The tank analyzed according to tank data on the project (tank type 1). This research is to understand the properties and characteristics of the tank under constraint of hydrostatic load subjected from Avtur inside the tank. In which the analysed behaviour inside the tank include static deformation and shell plate stresses. Having found the results will proceed to the next plan of switching three different plates on other tank models, optimizing research in finding most suitable tank. So that of the 4 tank types analyzed, the most optimum tank is obtained. Research done onto Avtur tank using one foot method. The plate will be measured using Khircoff element method, using finite element software calculation ANSYS 16.0. After finding the characterised effect from Tank1 (results bound) then similar research onto three different tanks will be continued by trial and error method. Third tank will be designed using thinner shell plate to find more efficient tank. The results of this research are each shell plate has different characteristic. The higher the fluid level onto a shell plate thus the larger its hydrostatic load received by the shell plate. Thus lower shell plate will receive highest hydrostatic load and lower with increasing level, reaching toroof connected shell plate that is able to withstand 0 (zero) level hydrostatic load. Ring girder can also affect with relation to the amount of steel, where tanks provided with the ring canhave the shell plate thickness reduced. In this scenario, researcher choose the 4th tanks that is more effective and efficient withstanding internal load (Avtur fluid) compared to three other types. This is due to number four tank uses lower amount of steel, due to its total weight of 196,9 tons. It also receives greater maximum stress compared to three other types, which is 308.92 kPa and lower deformation of 5.17 mm then in tank Type 1.
