Abstract

A work of song or music is a creation consisting of elements of a song or melody or lyrics and arrangements, including intonation. A work of song or music creation is also able to give a certain satisfaction to music lovers and the song that is being listened to in the form of strains. The problem in writing this thesis is regarding the legal protection of copyright for the circulation of pirated Minang and Dangdut DVDs in the Pekanbaru City Region and the factors that cause the widespread circulation of Minang and Dangdut DVDs in the Pekanbaru City Region. The type of research used in this study includes observational (non-doctrinal) legal research. This research was conducted in Pekanbaru City. The data used in this study used primary data and secondary data. Data collection tools using interviews. Population and sample are the parties related to the overall problem of this research. The data analysis used is a qualitative technique by means of deductive inference. The results of the research that copyright law protection for the circulation of impromptu Minang and Dangdut DVDs in the Pekanbaru City area by the Head of the Ditreskrimsus Polda Riau and the government have made maximum efforts with several efforts, such as holding outreach to the community, conducting raids and providing protection to the creator or holder. DVD song copyright is that the government conducts repressive supervision and takes preventive action by providing criminal sanctions and civil sanctions with demands for compensation. Although in the end this violation still occurs. The causal factor of this Copyright infringement is due to the lack of public awareness about the existence of the Copyright protection Act and is caused by Economic Factors.
