Abstract
Nowadays, TikTok is a new platform that is on the rise among Generation Z. In this application, everyone, especially the teenagers, are competing to show new characters for themselves on social media, to show their positive character. Not a few of those who play this application to get popularity. To get it, they do various ways to make their videos viral. This study aims to see how the self-representation of Generation Z through TikTok of the students of SMAN 14 Pekanbaru. This study used a qualitative descriptive method and related the problem to the opinions of experts. The data was collected by interviews and documentation. There were 4 informants in this study. This study used dramaturgy theory by Erving Goffman where dramaturgy theory is a theory which explains that interaction with each other is the same as performing a drama. In this case, humans are actors who display everything to achieve certain goals through the drama they do. From this theory, SMAN 14 Pekanbaru students are actors who display everything to achieve their goals through the drama they do. The results of this study are SMAN 14 Pekanbaru students represent themselves through TikTok. They uploaded the trending videos by forming and displaying videos that are trending and showing the best character of themselves to achieve their goal of gaining sympathy from the public and after that to gain popularity, but they also do not deny that TikTok brings positive and negative impacts for themselves.
