Abstract
The Alkali-Surfactant-Polymer (ASP) method is considered a promising method for increasing oil recovery since 1990. The ASP injection mechanism is based on reducing interfacial tension (IFT) between liquids and changing rock wettability to a more water-wet state. The ASP method involves the injection of surfactants, alkalis, and polymers into the reservoir. The mixture of surfactant and alkali forms an emulsion with oil while the polymer will increase the sweep efficiency. Problems with ASP injection such as adsorption can reduce the performance of ASP, so that the use of alkali is needed to reduce the adsorption. Field A is located offshore, so in these conditions, the provision of sodium carbonate as an alkali is very important, because the platform provides a limited place for the storage of materials. The research will be carried out with a model that has a grid size of 21x14x16, with a total volume of 37E + 06 ft3, an Inverted pattern of 5 spots, 2 layers of sandstone bounded by shale, with a well spacing of 150-250m and a total injection of 2.8 PV. ASP injection was carried out after 7 years of production and the use of hybrid-alkali systems was applied to determine the effect on ASP synergy. The use of hybrid-alkali systems that combine the attributes of sodium carbonate and ammonium hydroxide can work effectively compared to only sodium carbonate used. The use of hybrid-alkali is also proven to reduce sodium carbonate consumption up to three times lower. Alkaline hybrids are also able to reduce the value of IFT to reach ultra-low IFT reaching 1.1x10-3 dyne/cm, and able to reduce the amount of surfactant adsorption up to 5.31x10-4 lb moles / ft3. The ASP method is able to obtain an optimum cumulative oil production of 5,261,144 bbl and 5,282,002bbl by applying an alkaline hybrid system.
