Abstract

Cement serves to isolate hydrocarbons that are in the layer of the productive zone, so that if there is a cement failure, it will cause huge losses, both material, cost, and time losses. Through this research, the quality of dolomite was tested for compressive strength, shear bond strength, thickening time and free water so that it can be applied in the petroleum industry. In the test, various concentrations were carried out in order to determine the optimum amount of addition of dolomite in increasing the strength of the drilling cement. The results of the research conducted showed an increase in the value of the optimum compressive strength at an additional 4.5% concentration of 4791.92 psi. As for the value of shear bond strength, the optimum value added at a concentration of 7.5% was 1189.98 psi. Because the CS and SBS measurements are straight, the optimum value for increasing drilling strength is the addition of 4.5% BWOC. The thickening time and free water measurements have decreased, meaning that dolomite powder is classified as an accelerator additive which can accelerate the setting time and reduce the free water content in the cement suspension. From the determination of CS, SBS, and thickening time, it can be concluded that the use of dolomite powder in cement suspension can be applied in the petroleum world.
