Abstract

The SAGD method was first introduced in 1980 with high effectiveness in recovering heavy oil and bitumen. SAGD is one of the thermal methods whose application is by injecting steam into the well continuously through the injection well, causing steam to flow upwards to fill the formation and form a steam chamber, then steam flows to the edge of the steam chamber and releases its latent heat. into the formation and condensed so that heavy oil can move vertically, due to gravity and flow into production wells. The SAGD method has several advantages but from these advantages there are several disadvantages, namely steam channeling and steam override. The use of foam is done to overcome the shortcomings of SAGD or what is called foam assisted-SAGD because it has succeeded in increasing the efficiency of steam injection which serves to reduce steam mobility thereby increasing sweep efficiency and reducing heat loss. In this study, a comparison analysis of FA-SAGD injection with continuous injection and cyclic injection methods will be carried out as an effort to increase the oil recovery factor by testing the sensitivity of FA-SAGD to variations in surfactant concentration, injection flow rate and preheating period. In this research, the reservoir model is conceptualized using secondary data which will be simulated using the CMG STARS simulator. Adding foam in the SAGD process can increase sweep efficiency due to reduced vapor mobility due to the foam layer. In the base case (SAGD) condition, the recovery factor value is 46%, while in the FA-SAGD injection condition, the recovery factor value increases by 80.55% with a CSOR value of 2.34 bbl/bbl cumulative oil of 192735.5 bbl for the cyclic method and 83.03% with a CSOR value of 4.59. bbl/bbl oil cumulative is 198658.6 bbl for continuous method.
