Abstract

The BOB field is an oil field that is quite old so the rate of decline in production is bound to occur. One way to hold back the decline in production is by drilling to increase reserves. BOB will drill three wells, wells X, Y and Z. Drilling X wells is carried out straight up to 800 ft, drilling Y wells is carried out straight up to 2150 ft and drilling of Z wells is done tilting or directed to 2500 ft. To support the drilling activity, one of the equipment that needs to be prepared is a rig. Rig must be selected properly by considering the aspects of operations, aspects of safety and analysis of market availability. In conducting rig selection, it is necessary to calculate rig capacity which consists of drawwork, mast and substructure capacities. The calculation is based on the maximum load that will be supported by the rig when drilling is carried out. From the calculation results taking into account the operating aspects, safety aspects and market availability analysis, it was found that drilling the three wells requires a truck mounted type rig with a minimum capacity of 550 HP drawwork, a minimum mast capacity of 350,000 lbs and a minimum substructure capacity of 450,000 lbs. Keywords: rig, truck mounted, drawwork, mast, substructure
