Abstract
This study aims to determine the effect of Think Pair Share (TPS) cooperative learning models on the mathematical reasoning ability of Grade VIII students of SMP Negeri 1 Perhentian Raja in the academic year 2019/2020. The form of research is quasiexperimental (Quasi Experiment) with the research design Pretest-Posttest Control Group Design. The study population is all students of class VIII SMP Negeri 1 Perhentian Raja with class VIII1 samples as an experimental class that is treated using Think Pair Share (TPS) type cooperative learning model and class VIII3 as a control class that uses conventional learning with a number of different students namely 32 students in the experimental class and 30 students in the control class. The sampling technique uses purposive sampling. The study began on 10 February 2020 until 28 February 2020. The instruments and data collection techniques are test and observation techniques. Test results were analyzed to see students' mathematical reasoning abilities through descriptive statistical analysis and inferential analysis. In this study, the inferential analysis that was carried out was only homogeneity test and t-test. The results showed that tcount = 2,12 and ttable = 1,67. This means that tcount> ttable then H0 is rejected and H1 is accepted, so it can be concluded that there is an influence of the Think Pair Share (TPS) type of cooperative learning model on the mathematical reasoning ability of eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Perhentian Raja.
