Abstract

Poverty is a fundamental and complex problem that must be addressed immediately. In addition, poverty is also used as a bechmark for socio-economic conditions in measuring the success of development carried out by the government in a region. Riau province is one of the provinces with relatively high poverty rates. The poverty level is influenced by several indicators including the human development index (IPM) and unemployment. The purpose of this study is to find out how much influence the human development index (IPM) and unemployment have on poverty levels in Riau province and to know that there is a simultaneous relationship between variables. The data used in this study are secondary data obtained from the central statistical agency (BPS) from 2010- 2019, while the analytical method uses multiple linear regression analysis wit the help of E-views 9.0. the results of this study indicate that the human development index (IPM) has a negative and significant effect on poverty levels in Riau province, unemployment has a positive and sinificant effect on poverty levels in Riau province, and there is a simultaneous relationship between the human development index (IPM) and unemployment on poverty levels in Riau province.
