Abstract

This research is motivated by the use of journalistic language in the main news in the Pekanbaru Tribune newspaper. In writing a newspaper, there must be some use of journalistic language in a news story. The problem studied in this study is how is the use of journalistic language in the headlines in the June 2021 edition of the Tribun Pekanbaru newspaper? This study aims to collect data and information about the use of journalistic language in the headlines in the Pekanbaru Tribune newspaper. The theory used in this study is the theory of Sumadiria (2016). The research and methods used in this research are descriptive qualitative research. Data collection techniques used in this study are documentation techniques and hermeneutic techniques. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that the use of journalistic language in the main news in the newspaper Tribun Pekanbaru editions 2 to 29 June 2021 already uses the characteristics of the use of journalistic language, but errors are still found in the application of journalistic characteristics. Based on the results of research on the use of journalistic language in the main news in the newspaper Tribun Pekanbaru editions 2 to 29 June 2021, it was quite good, however, errors or inconsistencies were still found with the characteristics of journalistic language. Among other things, it still violates the characteristics of simple, short, dense, straightforward, clear, populist, grammatical, the use of foreign words and terms, and the use of technical terms. The most frequently violated feature is the use of technical terms.
