Abstract
Brick which is a building material in the form of an alternative printed brick to replace a brick composed of a composition between sand, cement and water. The use of Dara shells waste is expected to reduce environmental pollution due to the large number of shells. This research was conducted to reduce the use of sand as a mixed material for bricks with the use of virgin clam shell waste, the aim is to determine the effect of using virgin clam shell waste on the compressive strength and water absorption of the bricks. Pigeon shell waste as a partial substitution of sand used a mixture percentage of 0%., 2.5%., 5%., 7.5%., and 10% in the compressive strength and water absorption test for 28 days. In this study, SNI 03-0349-1989 was used and for the brick mold the size was 30x10x15cm. Based on the research conducted, the compressive strength of 28-day-old concrete at variations of 0%., 2.5%., has increased and at variations of 5%., 7.5%., and 10% has decreased, all variations are still included in the the quality of class I bricks for water absorption on 28 days old bricks on variations in the use of virgin clam shell waste 0%., 2.5%., 5%., and 7.5% always increased and water absorption at variations 10 % decreased, all of which are still classified as class 1 quality bricks with a maximum water absorption capacity of 25% in accordance with SNI 03-0349-1989.
