Abstract

Waste from coal combustion from power plants and steam called Fly Ash. Waste from coal combustion produced will be an environmental impact. This coal combustion includes fly ash which can be used as a concrete asphalt mixture filler by adding NaoH additive as an activator to become a Geopolymer. In research that has been done for concrete asphalt mixes using geopolymer fillers can increase stability, but on the other hand can increase the cavity in concrete asphalt mixtures. The results obtained indicate the use of geopolymers in concrete asphalt mixtures can increase stability. Although on the other hand multiply the mixture cavity, but still meet the specifications. Asphalt concrete using geopolymer filler results in increased stability and VIM, while those using fly ash produce moderate stability and decreased VIM. In this research, an examination of the properties of geopolymer concrete asphalt on pavement by varying the use of optimum asphalt content, aggregate gradation and filler composition. Furthermore, the results of these studies can be applied to the pavement to see the treatment. Geopolymers are composed of coal ash (fly ash) mixed with a solution of 8 molar concentration of NaOH as an activator. Fly Ash and activator are mixed, then precipitated to harden for 28 days, then crushed to pass filter No. 200 to be used as filler. The characteristics used meet the technical specifications of the upper, lower and middle grading mixtures, but in the design it is proposed to use a mixture of middle grading, if using the upper or lower grading is not recommended because the resulting mixture cavities do not meet the specifications criteria, namely VIM in the upper grading of 3.52% , the middle gradation is 4.33% and the bottom gradation is 6.80%. Whereas for the use of geopolymer filler mixtures it is recommended according to the composition of 1% - 2% or not more than 2%. Because to increase the stability and reduce the cavity of the asphalt concrete mixture by adding geopolymers aims to determine the use of optimum asphalt content used in a mixture, and the characteristics of the material used and the source of the material.
