Abstract

Jalan Jenderal Sudirman is a protocol road in Pekanbaru City that has a variety of land uses which can increase the height of traction and activity in this corridor. But at the some points, pedestrian pathways are not comfortable to use for walking and are considered ineffective based on the spatial use activities. This study aims to develop a concept of environment that is walkable in the Jalan Jenderal Sudirman Trade and Service Area in Pekanbaru. The method of this research was to calculate the walkability index seen from the perspective of the urban form by using derivative concepts from IPEN Project, walkability index based on the condition of the pedestrian path using calculations from the Asian Development Bank, and pedestrian preferences regarding the choice of transportation modes. In producing the concept, a benchmarking matrix is used which refers to the walkability index and preference, then compared to best practice. The results of the research are structuring the neighborhood with the addition of land use variations and increasing its density. By varying land use in an area, the community can fulfill all of their needs on foot. Furthermore, completing the needs of the community in walking, it is necessary to develop the quality of pedestrian paths that ensure the safety and security of its users.
