Abstract

Several crude oil type contain a high wax content which can cause wax deposition problem during the transportation process, especially length pipeline. Some parameters are investigated in detail to predict the starting point of the emerging wax deposition. In this study, the formation of wax deposition was predicted using OLGA simulation. Laboratory tests on samples from MY # 15 well have been carried out to determine fluid composition. The characterization of fluid composition was estimated by PVTsim software without tuning. The results of this characterization are then used as input for OLGA to compute the deposition starting point and calculate the deposition rate. Based on the modeling that has been done, the parameters that influence the deposition of wax in the flow distribution pipe are fluid temperature decreases under WAT 46,97 ºC and conditions of ambient temperature 32 ºC, 22 ºC dan 39,75 ºC. Simulations were carried out on the MY # 15 well at a 480 bpd flow rate for several periods of time (6, 12, 18, 24 and 30 days) under conditions of normal environmental temperature 32 ºC. Then carried out also in conditions of environmental temperature during rainy 22 ºC and hot 39,75 ºC weather to see the effect on the starting point of wax deposition and the level of thickness. Precipitation of wax under conditions of normal ambient temperature, the starting point of wax deposition is formed at a distance of 58,22 m – 64,39 m. The deposition rate will continue to increase over time and will reach a thickness of 0.0145 mm at a distance of 150 m after 30 days. Whereas if there is a change in the condition of the environmental temperature at the time of rain 22 ºC, the deposition of wax begins to form earlier, namely at point 34 m. In the conditions of the environmental temperature at the time of hot 39,75 ºC, deposition of wax begins to from 147,7 m.
