Abstract
Trafficking in persons is one of the crimes that is growing rapidly in our times. Human trafficking is known as a modern form of human slavery and is also one of the worst forms of violation of human dignity. The crime of trafficking in persons is proven by physical exploitation and sexual exploitation. Today, there has been an increase in cases of human trafficking. This increase could be motivated by weak law enforcement. One of them is law enforcement by the police. The main problem in this research is how to implement law enforcement against the crime of trafficking in persons and what are the obstacles to implementing law enforcement against the crime of trafficking in persons at the Riau Regional Police (Riau Regional Police). The method used in this research is empirical legal research by conducting research on the role of the Riau Regional Police in law enforcement with data collection tools, namely interviews. The nature of this research is descriptive; that is, it provides a clearer picture by revealing the problems and conditions as they are. From the results of the research, it is known that the crime of trafficking in persons is a type of crime that is worrying in Riau Province and is dominated by the mode of illegal migrant workers. Riau Province is used by trafficking syndicates to serve as a transit area before sending victims to their destination, namely Malaysia. The Riau Regional Police (Polda Riau) as a law enforcement agency carries out its duties in prevention, law enforcement, and countermeasures. In carrying out law enforcement, there are several obstacles encountered, including insufficient budget funds, inadequate facilities and infrastructure, and a lack of personnel.
