Abstract

Unsignalized intersection Melati Jalan Garuda Sakti Km.2 Pekanbaru City. The heavy traffic volume during peak hours causes high degree of saturation (DJ), intersection delay (T), and queue length at the intersection. The purpose of this research is to identify the characteristics of vehicle speed in each road section at the intersection, and also identify existing traffic performance, to implement alternative traffic solutions and compare existing conditions with after alternative solutions. The research technique used is direct analysis and survey in the field for 4 (four) days during peak hours, 2 (two) days weekday, 1 (one) day special day, and 1 (one) day weekend. The data taken in the field are vehicle speeds, traffic volumes and intersection geometrics which will be processed and analyzed using the Indonesian Road Capacity Guidelines (PKJI 2023). The results of the analysis of the highest vehicle speed characteristics for Minor Road A KS 22.43 km/hour, MP 27.41 km/hour, SM 30.2 km/hour, Minor Road C KS 0 km/hour, MP 28.12 km/hour, SM 30.9 km/hour, Major Road B KS 23.45 km/hour, MP 22.48 km/hour, SM 29.49 km/hour, and Major Road D KS 25.53 km/hour, MP 21.48 km/hour, SM 27.16 km/hour. The results of the analysis of the existing intersection performance obtained a degree of saturation (DJ) of 0.86, the DJ value of the intersection has exceeded the standard limit by PKJI 2023, namely DJ ≤ 0.85. The alternative solution to optimize the performance of the intersection is to widen the major road to 6 m with a DJ value of 0.77.
