Abstract

One of the competencies that students must master is the ability to solve mathematical problems and learning styles are factors that affect the ability to solve mathematical problems. This study aims to describe the ability to solve mathematical problems for class VIII students in terms of learning styles. The type of research used is qualitative research using descriptive methods. The research subjects studied were class VIII students of SMPN 11 Tapung for the 2021/2022 School Year with a total of 30 students then taken into 10 students who were the main subjects of the study using purposive sampling techniques. The data collection used non-test techniques in the form of learning style questionnaires and interview guidelines, as well as test techniques using mathematical problem-solving ability test instruments on flat side room building materials. Data analysis techniques performed based on Miles and Huberman include data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of the discussion showed that: class VIII students of SMPN 11 Tapung predominantly have an Auditory learning style. The average mathematics problem-solving ability of class VIII students belongs to the moderate category. Students with a visual learning style have the ability to solve problems by meeting two indicators of problem-solving ability (indicator 3 and indicator 4). Students with an auditory learning style have the ability to solve problems by meeting three indicators of problem-solving ability (indicator 1, indicator 2, and indicator 4). Students with a kinesthetic learning style have the ability to solve problems by meeting one indicator of mathematical problem-solving ability (indicator 4).
