Abstract

This study aims to use ginger rhizome extract (Zingiber Officinalle) with the weight loss method. Ginger rhizome extract was obtained by maceration extraction using ethanol. In the petroleum industry, the most common types of corrosion are generalized and localized corrosion. The use of inorganic inhibitors was widely used by companies in this period to inhibit corrosion in the pipeline. The compounds contained in the ginger rhizome extract indicate the presence of 6-Gingerol and 6-shogaol which is one of the compounds included in the phenolic antioxidant group which is a non-toxic organic compound that can be biodegraded so that it can be used as a good inhibitor to slow down corrosion. The inhibitory power was obtained based on the value of the inhibition efficiency from variations in the concentration of ginger rhizome extract, namely 0%, 2%, 4%, 6%, and 8% as well as variations in temperature, namely 30ºC, 40ºC, and 50ºC. Based on the research results obtained data on the corrosion rate and inhibitor efficiency at various concentrations, respectively: 64.6209 mmpy, 13.7837 mmpy, 8.95704 mmpy, 4.92363 mmpy, 4.407676 mmy- 1 and : 0%, 78.6698%, 86.1391%, 92.3807%, 93.1792%. For temperature variations, the corrosion rate and inhibitor efficiency data were obtained, respectively: 89.74%; 88.94%; 84.94%; 83.37% and 0.3986 mmpy; 0.570 mmpy; 2.1017 mmpy; 9.8384 mmpy.
