Abstract

Currently, the main material for the manufacture of dentures is acrylic resin, but it is still not possible to get acrylic resin in Indonesia, because to get this acrylic resin, it must be imported at a fairly expensive price. So to overcome these high costs, efforts are needed to find alternative substitute materials that have a good effect on the human body. One material that is good for the human body is hydroxyapatite. Hydroxypatite (HA) is a calcium phosphate containing hydroxide with the chemical formula Ca10(PO4)6(OH)2 which is widely used in dentistry as an artificial bone and tooth root. This material is the main component of teeth, bones, animal teeth, egg shells, shells and so on. These materials are very abundant in Indonesia and also easy to find, but these materials are still not utilized properly. Calcium carbonate (CaCO3) is also the main ingredient in limestone abrasive and is a composition found in chicken egg shells. In addition, calcium carbonate is also found in blood clam shells. Because the population of blood clams is also very easy and can be found, especially in coastal areas in Indonesia. Blood clams also have uses, one of which is as food and the shell waste is also used as sofenir2 and the manufacture of whiting (Afranita, 2014). Based on research conducted by Mohammed et al (2012) it was found that the calcium carbonate content in blood clam shells reached 98.99%. After performing the impact test, the highest yield was obtained at 40% powder composition with a value of 0.521 j/mm² and the lowest yield at 20% powder composition with a value of 0.363 j/mm². As for the hardness, the highest yield was obtained at 20% powder composition with a value of 17.917 kg/mm² and the lowest yield was obtained at 40% powder composition with 14.765 kg/mm². After observing the microstructure, the results obtained from the composition of the 40% powder with the distribution of the clam shell powder with a little space compared to the 20% and 30% powder composition with the distribution of the clam shell powder with a lot of space.
