Abstract

This study is motivated by the low ability of students in understanding the subject matter taught by the teacher. Before implementing the question and answer method, the students found difficulties in understanding the lessons taught by the teacher because the teacher only applied the lecture method and the drill method in teaching, thus making students less understanding about the lessons taught by the teacher. Based on the background of the study, it is suggested to apply the question and answer method in order to help improve students' understandings of learning. The problem formulation of this study is whether the implementation of question and answer method can improve students' understandings in learning Islamic Studies in class VII at SMP Widya Graha YKWI Pekanbaru. The aim of this study is to investigate the implementation of question and answer method to improve students’ understandings in learning Islamic Studies. The subject of this study is the students, while the object is the implementation of question and answer method to improve students’ understandings in learning Islamic Studies. The type of this study is Classroom Action Research (CAR). The results of this study show that the implementation of question and answer method can improve students' understandings of learning, it can be seen from the learning outcomes before conducting the research that the students' scores only reached 25%, then after implementing the question and answer method in cycle I, the scores increased slightly up to 45%, then continued in cycle II that the sudents' scores kept increasing up to 80%. Therefore, it can be concluded that the question and answer method can improve students' understandings of learning.
