Abstract

This research was conducted for ± 1 day in May 2019 at the Fish Seed Center (BBI) Faculty of Agriculture, Riau Islamic University, Pekanbaru. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of different temperatures on the hatchability of eggs and the length of hatching of African catfish (C. gariepinus) as well as to find out what is the optimum temperature for producing hatching eggs and the length of time of hatching of catfish (C. gariepinus). The method used was using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with 4 treatments and 3 replications namely P0 = initial water temperature (290C), P1 = 240C temperature, P2 = 260C temperature, P3 = 280C temperature and P4 = 240C temperature. African catfish eggs were obtained from artificial spawning at the Fish Seed Center of the Islamic University of Riau. Containers used in the form of a jar with a capacity of 5 liters of water as much as 15 pieces. In this study, different temperatures were found to have a very significant effect on the dripping power of African catfish eggs, the percentage of optimal hatchability of eggs on P4 treatment (water temperature of 300C) was 81%, followed by treatment of P3 (water temperature of 280C) of 74 %, P2 treatment (water temperature 260C) at 71.67%, P0 treatment (initial water temperature 290C) at 54.33% and the lowest at P1 treatment (water temperature 240C) at 52.33%. Then the different temperatures also have a very significant effect on the length of hatching time for African catfish eggs, for the percentage of the optimal or fastest average hatching time for P4 treatment (300C water temperature) obtained for 24.35 hours followed by P0 treatment (temperature initial water 290C) for 24.52 hours, treatment P1 (water temperature 240C) for 27.74 hours, treatment P2 (water temperature 260C) for 28.04 hours and the longest for treatment P3 (water temperature 280C) for 28.26 %. The results of water quality measurements in this study with the results of pH 5.6, dissolved oxygen from 4.7 to 5.4 ppm and Ammonia from 0.022 to 0.184 ppm.
