Abstract

Oil production in RE field, as a mature one, is constantly declining regarding the production data hystory. Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) method especially surfactant injection is one of the solutions to increase oil production in RE field by reducing the remaining oil in reservoir. Screening criteria for surfactants before implemented in the reservoir is a must. In this research, there are two conducted screening criteria, they are Compatibility test whose objective to select a suitable surfactant compatible with the formation water, and Phase Behaviour Test (PBT). PBT is the selection of surfactants that is able to form microemulsion winsor type III, in addition salinity optimum of surfactant can be determined by this test. In this research, there were 8 surfactants, anionic and nonionic, used with vary concentration range. Compatibility test concentration range was 0.5% - 3% meanwhile PBT was 0.05% - 10% with salinity range 100 ppm – 100.000 ppm. Compatibility test outcome showed Surfactants S3, S4, S5, S6, S7, S8 as good result, clear solution and no precipitation while the rest, S1 and S2, were only good in 0.05% concentration. Furthermore, PBT result showed S4 surfactant with 2% concentraion with 25,000 ppm, 30,000 ppm, and 35,000 ppm showed the microemulsion type III, the proceeding salinities were called gradient salinity.
