Abstract

Riau is a province that has peat land. Peat soil is a type of soil formed from the remains of semi-decomposed plants that have not been completed, but last for a long time. Soil stabilization is usually done by adding chemicals to the soil so that a chemical reaction occurs which causes the bonds between the soil grains to become compact, one of which is by means of chemical stabilization which can be used to obtain a standard carrying capacity for a construction and reduce the properties of the soil. which is not good from the ground. This study aims to determine the characteristics of peat soil and the addition of phosphoric acid (H3PO4) to the CBR (California Bearing Ratio) value. This study used experimental methods in the laboratory which included testing the physical properties of the soil and the bearing strength of the soil CBR (California Bearing Ratio). with variations in the addition of phosphoric acid 3%, 6%, 9% and 12% with curing time of 1 day and 4 days and soaking 1 day and 4 days. The results obtained that peat soil has a specific gravity of 1.53, a moisture content of 351.1%, a maximum water content (OMC) of 132% and a maximum dry density (MDD) value of 0.4 gr/cm3. The largest CBR value of native peat soil is 4 days of curing time of 1.36%. As for the CBR value, the largest addition of phosphoric acid was at 3% curing for 1 day, and there was a decrease for each subsequent addition of phosphoric acid. Based on the research that has been done, it can be concluded that phosphoric acid (H3PO4) cannot be used as an additional material for improving peat soil, because the CBR value obtained is <6% so it does not meet the standard CBR value.
