Abstract

Over time, oil and gas production will decrease. Electrical Submercible Pump (ESP) and Gas Lift are artificial lifts widely used in oil and gas companies in the world, including of Indonesia. The Gas Lift is used to increase the fluid by injecting a certain amount of gas, while ESP is a centrifugal type pump used to increase the production rate. Among two methods, a comparison was made to observe the economics for each method to prove the economics of both ESP and Gas Lift methods. It is necessary to calculate and analyze economic indicators, such as Net Present Value (NPV), Internal Rate Of Return (IRR), Pay Out Time (POT), and Profitability Index (PI). The purpose of this study was to determine the comparison of the economics and sensitivity of two methods aiming to observe which work is feasible and more economical. The results of calculation in term of economic indicators for each method of ESP and Gas Lift were 1) the Gas Lift method with an investment of 3,090,387 US$, the price of oil used is 68.51 US$/bbl with NPV@10%= 3653410 US$, IRR = 99%, POT = 0.72 years, PI = 2.05. While ESP results obtained were NPV @ 10% = 4541484, 16 US$, IRR = 100%, POT = 0.63 years and PI = 2.18. Sensitivity analysis was carried out on this project by adding assumptions to 85% - 115%. Based on the result of calculation either profit indicators or sensitivity analysis, it could be concluded that ESP method is more profitable to be implied than the Gas Lift method.
