Abstract

The importance of the teacher in mastering methods that can improve the teaching and learning process in the classroom is a must, because by using learning methods that are in accordance with the subject matter, the material delivered can be more easily accepted by students. One of the methods that can improve AlQur'an learning is drill method, because the drill method is a way of learning in the form of practice. However, the method used by the teachers of Al-Qur'an study at integrated Islamic elementary school (SDIT) Bunayya of Pekanbaru city is not in accordance with the subject matter, in consequence there are still many students who have not achieved the targeted learning outcomes. So, through this study the researcher tried to apply the drill method which was expected to improve the students’ ability in reading Al-Qur'an at SDIT Bunayya of Pekanbaru city. The formulation of the problem in this study is: How to apply the drill method in improving the students’ ability in reading Al-Qur'an at SDIT Bunayya of Pekanbaru city? This type of research is classroom action research. The object of this study was the students while the subject of this study was the drill method. The population in this study was all fourth grade students at SDIT Bunayya of Pekanbaru city as many as 30 people. Data collection techniques used were observation, tests and documentation. After the data are collected, the data processing and data analysis are carried out in order to figure out whether the application of drill method can improve the ability in reading Al-Qur'an among the grade IV students at SDIT Bunayya of Pekanbaru city. The result showed that the teacher's activity at the third cycle increased up to 45% in the interval of 40% - 60% with the category “medium’. While the increasing the students’ ability in reading Al-Qur'an in the field of Al-Qur'an study in class IV at SDIT Bunayya of Pekanbaru city at the third cycle reached 84% with the category of “Good Enough” which is in the interval of 80% -86%. It means that all students have reached the minimal achivement criteria (KKM) that has been set at 80%.
