Abstract

The low level of students’ self-confidence is a problem that needs to be considered by each education unit. Students’ self-confidence becomes a benchmark in the success of speech activities to create generations of male and female preachers who are more independent and skilled. However, there are some students who have low selfconfidence and this needs to be considered and found the best solution in order to achieve improvement in the future, especially on the students’ confidence in speech at Madrasah Tsanawiyah (MTs) Al-Munawwarah. One of solutions suggested to solve this problem is by using life skills counseling model which means a counseling that can help individuals or clients to help themselves (self-helping) through the development of thinking (thinking skills) and acting (action skills) so that they can overcome their low self-confidence problem. The formulation of problem in this research is whether the application of the life skills counseling model can increase students' confidence in speech of class VIII Aisyah at Madrasah Tsanawiyah AlMunawwarah. This study aims to figure out the application of life skills counseling model in increasing students' confidence. Based on the data obtained from the field, it is known that students' self-confidence before using the life skills counseling model method was in the "Poor" category with a percentage of 64.84%. After using the life skills counseling model method in the first cycle, students' self-confidence increased, but remained in the "Poor" category with a percentage of 73.08%. Then the researcher continued using it in the second cycle, and the result showed that the students’ confidence increased significantly into the category of "Very Good" with a percentage of 94.36%. After analyzing this study, it can be concluded that the application of life skills counseling model can increase students' confidence in speech of class VIII Aisyah at Madrasah Tsanawiyah AL-Munawwarah into the category of "Very Good" with a percentage of 94.36%.
