Abstract

Polymer injection is one of the chemical techniques used in the process of oil recovery or EOR (enhanced oil recovery). The most widely used injection method is polymerflooding, the polymer can increase the viscosity of the pressure fluid (water) and play a role in pushing and pressing the oil to make it more optimal. Basically, the types of polymers used by the oil and gas industry are synthetic polymers (polyacrylamide) & biopolymers (polysaccharide). Polysaccharides are a type of natural polymer derived from plants. This study uses research on okra plants because okra plants contain polysaccharides and are easy to find. The stages in this research are characteristic tests in the form of compatibility, share rate, share stress, viscosity, density and FTIR. okra will be extracted to a powder. In this study, xantham gum was tested as a commercial polymer and compared with okra. Next, the compatibility of okra solution with polymer concentrations of 1000, 2000, and 3000ppm will be carried out with a low salinity range of 5000 ppm using a temperature of 70, 80 and 90℃. Then proceed with measurements using a 50 ml pycnometer to get the density results, where it is obtained that the addition of concentration and salinity can make density increase, but with increasing temperature, density can decrease. Furthermore, the viscosity test using the Fann VG Meter, the parameters that affect the viscosity are concentration and temperature and shear rate, the results obtained from this test, the addition of polymer concentration can increase the viscosity value but when the salinity, temperature and shear rate increase, the viscosity decreases . FTIR test results show the presence of OH, C-H, C-O, C-C and NO2 groups.
